What Adult Foster Care actually is

Not a facility, not a placement. It is a MassHealth benefit that pays and supports the person already doing the caring.

Care happens at home

The member stays in their own home, or lives in the home of the person caring for them. Nothing about where they live has to change.

The caregiver is someone they know

An adult child, a relative, a friend or a neighbor. Not an agency worker on a rotation. A spouse or legal guardian cannot be the paid caregiver.

The caregiver is trained and paid

Paid training, a tax-free stipend, and a case manager and nurse who stay involved for as long as the member is enrolled.

Adult Foster Care is covered by MassHealth, and it does not come out of the member's other benefits.
